It had been a mistake to try to hunt the thing herself. She wasn't exactly sure what had made her do it, except that things hadn't been the same since It had happened. She still wasn't entirely able to think of that night as anything other than "It".
She'd tracked it here, to this warehouse in America of all places. She'd brought her wand, not knowing that for once, it would fail her. she'd fought the thing, fought until it knocked the wand from her hand. The slender rod had flown into the dark reaches of the building, and she found herself at the beast's mercy.
But death had not come for her tonight. Something, some*one*, had thrown her against a wall, pinned her there and growled, "Stupid woman! What the hell do you think you're doing?"
Then he was gone, and a loud *crack* reported through the warehouse, echoing until she thought her ears would burst. There was an unearthly wail, another explosion- and then blessed silence.
She huddled against the wall for an eternity, until flames began to flicker in the darkness. She pushed herself up, peering over the wall of old, half-collapsed boxes, and saw the silhouette of a man outlined by the fire he'd set on the beast's corpse.
On shaking legs, she cautiously approached. He glanced over at her as she joined him.
"You okay?" he asked gruffly.
"Fine," she said. "Thank you for saving me."
He shrugged, and handed her the wand she'd lost. "I take it this is yours."
"It is, yes. Thank you." She hesitated a moment, seeing on his roughed face and in his hazel eyes the same pain she had been harbouring. "I'm Molly," she offered. "Molly Weasley."
Those dark eyes flicked her way. "Nice to meet you, Molly."
Then he began to walk away, leaving the rancid stench of the corpse behind. Molly trotted after him, not wanting, despite the fact that she was a grown woman, to be left alone.
"Wait!" she called. "Who are you?"
He paused by the side of a big, black truck with Kansas plates. The man stared at her for a long, long moment, before he said, "John Winchester."
Then he swung himself up into the truck and was gone.
