Shino could see on the look on his team-mate that she wasn't as fine as everyone assumed.

She just wasn't the same after Naruto had left. Naruto was his friend, but somewhere in his gut he felt hatred towards the loud-mouthed blond.

Was he that stupid, that he didn't even notice the pale-eyed girls feelings towards him?

...Apparently, yes.

Even though Hinata was "doing fine" without the blond, Shino knew his friend enough to know that wasn't true. It had already been a year since the orange-clad ninja had left Konoha to train with one of the Sannin, so why was Shino still so upset about him leaving the Hyuuga-girl behind?

Shino had always thought of Hinata as a friend, she was the first girl that had accepted him. After all, he wasn't the most popular guy around.

But even in the academy, Hinata had been the only girl even speaking to him. She had always been that way. Shy and nice towards everyone, some would say that she was naïve. But she wasn't.

Shino couldn't help but to love her, but as a friend of course. Just like Kiba and Neji loved her, the three of them were almost like Hinata's big brothers despite their differences. They did actually have one thing in common, Hinata.

They all wanted to protect her with their lives, their little sister. But Shino had started to doubt that he loved her as his sister. He did have two real sisters and his love to them wasn't the same as for his pale-eyed team-mate.

Shino had started to love Hinata as the strong Hyuuga kunoichi that were always their to save them on their missions in case they'd mess up.

He had started to love Hinata as the kind and compassionate young woman that she was.

He had also started to love Hinata as the shy and stuttering girl, which she also was.

Shino had started to love Hinata, for who she was but also as something more than a sister.

It confused him as hell, but he could see that she was still in love with the blond, and as long as she had feelings for somebody else than himself, he wouldn't make a move. He still dislikes the idea that his team-mate was head over heals for a certain blond, but since Naruto didn't notice Shino was glad for his own sake and angry for his sister's. In his head, he had gotten used to calling her sister. But now when he had actually figured out that he loved her as more than a sister, it did sound a bit strange.

But he wouldn't make a move until that foolish crush of hers had gone cold.

Because Shino didn't want to be her rebound. Oh no, that was something Kiba would be more fitting as...

Shino wanted to be the real thing for his sister.

...I really should stop call her sister, he noted to himself.
