It was the same thing after every mission; we would meet at the clock tower and Roxas and I would talk about everything that crossed our minds while enjoying a bar of sea salt ice cream.
For some reason while I was away at Castle Oblivion, Roxas invited Xion up and she's been apart of our group ever since. But I cared too much about Roxas to shut out Xion.
Anyone who is a friend of Roxas is a friend of mine. I remember when I said those words, but the truth was I couldn't stand her. Ever since those two started talking I felt replaced.
I know they share a keyblade, but Roxas and I have something stronger and she's trying to steal him and it from me.
When I'm with him I can feel the warmth of the sun and the cool breeze against the clock tower. I can see the beauty in life. This kid makes me feel like I still have a heart and that I could still love.
"I'm going to turn in early, guys. Are you coming?" Xion interrupted my thoughts while standing up and looking over at us.
"Yeah, in a minute," I said curtly.
"How about you, Roxas?" She smiled at him. She tries so hard, but there's no way I'm giving up.
Roxas looks at me and then back at Xion. "I'm going to finish my ice cream first." I glanced down at his ice cream. He only had a little bit left which means I don't have a lot of time.
"Alright, I'll see you guys later." Xion looked disappointed, but walked off.
I tried to say something to him but couldn't find the words. Roxas didn't say anything either.
I looked over at him when I felt him get up. Before he could walk off, I grabbed his hand. "Roxas…"
He turned his head to look at me, puzzled. "What's up?"
If I had a heart it would be pounding. I looked up at him and swallowed hard.
"I just wanted to spend a little more time with you…" I trailed off.
"Oh, alright," he said with a smile and sat back down.
I slid over until our shoulders were touching. Neither of us said anything at first.
"So what's up? Is there any particular reason why you wanted to spend more time with me?"
I frowned. He didn't want to be here with me, he probably wants to spend more time with Xion.
Something wet fell from my eye and after a moment I realized I was crying.
"Axel, what's wrong!" Roxas shouted with concern, grabbing my hand with his.
I turned to look into his eyes. How else could I say it other than being completely blunt? "I love you."
Shock and confusion was clearly written on his face.
"…what?"
I leaned into him until our lips lightly brushed together. When I went to pull away, he pressed his lips against mine.
After ending the kiss, Roxas buried his face into my shoulder. I wrapped my arms around him and held him as tightly and closely as I could. I never wanted this moment to end. Silence overtook us.
"…Axel?" He murmured into my shoulder.
"Hm?"
He looked up at me and said in almost a whisper, "I love you too."
For the first time in I don't know how long, I had a true smile on my face. I put my fingers underneath his chin to tilt his head up closer to mine and I kissed his forehead.
Just because we're Nobodies, doesn't mean we can't love. True love exists whether you have a heart or not. Roxas and I feel our love in our souls. I once heard that Nobodies don't have a right to exist or even be. But you know what? Let it be.
