Just because her sister and husband blamed him what she was didn't mean it was his fault.
Her soul was dark before he'd even laid eyes on her. Yes, his affections and praise drew what she really was out into the open but he believed sooner or later what she was would have become visible to the outside world eventually.
Maybe it helped them deal with what she became to direct the blame at him, but it really wasn't true.
She was cruel and blood thirsty before they met, she was descending into madness before he had bedded her and her devotion to him had taken hold way before he'd marked her.
No, he hadn't made her what she was, but he did accept what she was without judgment or repulsion.
