Chapter 1: The Way Of The Team
"There's something I've learned about combat….that the only way to save a life….is to take one"-Doc
The yelling. The shouting. The sound of gunfire. It was nothing Team Rainbow wasn't familiar with. To them, it's just another day at the office. Since their formation, the squad unit had recruited the world's top operators both for invasion and defensive missions. From offensive soldiers like the hammer wielding Sledge to the defenders like the silent Mute, Team Rainbow had become an army. So when it came to defending a biohazard container from local terrorists, it was just another day.
LOS ANGELES AIRFIELD
12:49 Military Time
The terrorists kept shouting in Muslim at their comrades, trying to get their hands on the biohazard container. Mute fired his shotgun into 2 of them to hold them back.
"These bastards just keep coming and coming!" He shouted. Smoke on the other hand was trying to get his smoke canisters ready. Bandit decked the walls in his shockwire in a rush to keep them out and to buy Smoke more time.
"How much longer 'till the smokes out?" Bandit shouted. Smoke looked up and reached back.
"EVERYBODY DUCK!" He yelled. Smoke pulled the pin and chucked the gas into the lower corridor of the plane. In an instant, toxic orange gas filled the corridor. What followed next was victory as the terrorists burst out into coughing fits…..and then they died. Doc checked the camera's and grinned
"Dead, 14 casualties." He said. Tachanka walked into the room holding his LMG and 4 bodies on his shoulder. Bandit laughed.
"Really Tach….really…" He joked. Tachanka shrugged.
"Shit happens." He said. Smoke took off his mask and cracked his neck.
"Alright let's book. First round of beers are on me" James said.
4 Hours Later…
Unmasked, but still in their combat gear, Tachanka, Smoke, Mute, Doc, and Bandit all raised their bottles in victory. James raised his first.
"To another successful defense! Semper Fi!" He said proudly. The other 4 clinked their drinks together and repeated their chant "Always Faithful" as it meant.
"Man I love this job," Dominic said. Doc, although his real name was Gustave Kateb preferred to be called by his code name laughed.
"As I said before: The only way to save lives is to take another's" He added. Alessandro looked up from the file he was reading.
"Bad news mates. We got a new recruit coming in next week." Alessandro said. The other operators groaned.
"Not again. The last guy we trained couldn't handle our training last time" Mark said, which was saying a lot, considering that he was a man of few words, hence the nickname Mute.
"Not necessarily." James said looking at the file. "Her name is Monika Weiss. Codename IQ…..and she can use an electronics detector to find hidden explosives." Doc raised an eyebrow.
"The question is...who's gonna show her the ropes of Team Rainbow?" Doc said. The group all looked at him, as if implying that he was gonna be the one to do it.
"Oh fuck you guys" Doc snapped. Dominic smirked.
"Aw come on Doc. You sure you don't want to get laid with the new tech girl?" Dominic said laughing. Doc gave him the finger.
"No...I'm a defender and she's more offensive than anything. You know this" Doc said. Mute looked up.
"Aye, I trained Hibana and guess what she gave me in return?" Mark said. Alessandro gave him a punch in the arm.
"You got cock blocked?" He sniggered. Mark shook his head.
"Quite the opposite" He corrected. Doc took another sip of his beer.
"Alright! Fine. I'll show Monika the ropes of Team Rainbow." He said shaking his head in annoyance. James gave a him a grin.
"And possibly get laid?" He added. Doc shot him a glare.
"In your dreams Porter." Doc said with a laugh.
