Title: U-R Cool

Pairing: Nick/Greg

Summary: Nick's always asking Greg what he thinks of him, and Greg has to suppress his real thoughts.

Notes: I own nothing.

Greg wasn't sure if Nick was actually an insecure person or if he just valued Greg's opinion. He supposed it was the latter, since Nick seemed very sure of himself whenever Greg was looking (and that seemed to be happening more often than he thinks it should be) and he really does hope that Nick values his opinion. He knows that he does as a CSI, since he's certainly done enough to prove himself, even if he messes up sometimes.

Anyways, he supposes he gets off-topic very easily. Greg glanced down at his phone, curling his toes nervously. He didn't have to worry about anyone seeing him and getting worried, since he was currently located in his apartment, doors closed and curtains drawn. He continued to stare at the screen, trying to figure out if it was a trick question or not.

See, Nick would often ask Greg what he thought of him. It was generally very subtle, easily slipped into whatever conversation they were having, and it had actually taken Greg months to notice that he was doing it. He would answer honestly, of course, because it was easy to compliment Nick. It was just slightly jarring to get a text message from Nick, asking him directly, 'Hey Greggo. What do you think of me?'

You understand Greg's confusion.

And hope, because this question might be a sign of better relationships (hint hint) because of how blunt it is. But then again, Greg thinks, Nick could just be feeling down and needs something to pick him up, to sooth his self-esteem. Because he might actually be an insecure person, Greg's not quite sure. He knows Nick pretty well, but he could always know him better.

Hint, hint.

But he knows there's definitely some consequences to their friendship should his hopes prove to be unfounded. So, after a good ten minutes pondering on what the hell he should do (and hoping that Nick was not waiting for an immediate response), he presses the reply button and taps on a few keys.

'U-R cool :)'

He's not lying, because it's so easy to compliment Nick. But he kind of wishes he had the courage to write something a bit more meaningful. He could have used so many other words instead of 'cool'. Amazing. Handsome. Perfect.

The one I want.

But his finger moves automatically, sending the message as it is before he can even think about changing it, and he supposes he'll have to keep those words inside just a little bit longer. Because he can never lie to Nick, not about anything.

And sooner or later, he'll run out of platonic phrases to say.
