Title: Star Eyes
Pairing: Merlin/Arthur
Summary: Arthur loves staring at Merlin's eyes.
Notes: I own nothing.
Arthur loves Merlin. He loves everything about Merlin, from his upbeat attitude to his magic to every contour of his pale skin that only Arthur is allowed to touch. He loves everything about Merlin, even if some of his traits are annoying – he can handle them in small doses, because then they can be seen as endearing.
But what he loves most are Merlin's eyes.
He's never been a great fan of bards and poets who go around spouting frivolous words that Arthur's never understood the use of. But after he started looking into Merlin's eyes – really looking – he got a bit of an idea what those poets were going on about.
His eyes were blue, like the sky on the clearest day, like the ocean sparkling with a million diamonds, and dammit if that sounded like one of Morgana's favourite bards. Arthur could forgive himself if he sounded like some fancy minstrel – at least only in his head – because this was Merlin he was thinking about.
And on the occasions that he caught Merlin performing magic, as long as he could get away with it, he would stare into those eyes, watching for the flash of gold that swept over the blue orbs. That gold was strong, was beautiful, and – there was no other word to describe it – magical. If Merlin's normal eye colour was the sky, then his golden eyes were suns, were stars, that would flash and twinkle in a way that no star could ever match.
Arthur would make excuses to see these eyes. Lazy mornings and evenings they spent wrapped up in each other on Arthur's bed, the covers thrown over them haphazardly, Arthur would hold Merlin close and get Merlin to light the fire, tidy the room, whatever small chore he could think of. And Merlin would laugh and roll those beautiful eyes, but he didn't want to leave Arthur's warm embrace either, so with a flick of the wrist and a few whispered words, the task would be done and Arthur would catch a glimpse of those beautiful golden eyes.
Eyes that held the power of molten stars in their depths.
