"What are you wearing?" She'd come up behind him while he was seated in their little dining area indulging a little after dinner sweets craving and was startled to find a different smell reach her nostrils as she buried her face in his neck.
"You don't like it?" his face fell.
"I like it, I just don't know it. What is it? Where did you get it? Why are you wearing it? You're not usually a cologne type of guy." The questions spilled out of her mouth unbidden as insecurities ran amok in her mind.
His shoulders slumped. Finger and thumb moved to the bridge of his nose as a sigh escaped his lips.
"It's called COWBOY," he said in a defeated tone, "I got it at a place downtown. A very reliable source told me that it was romantic. I just wanted to—I just—I don't know. I don't know what I was thinking to be honest..."
"While this smells nice, I love the smell of you." She rubbed his shoulders soothingly. "Buck up Babe, when it comes to the romance department, you no longer need any help. Once upon a time that was a different story, but you're the only person I know who knows what makes me tick."
"Chocolate? A hot bath?"
"Yes, but more importantly, you. Just you." She laughed, "Remember the chocolate debacle of 2006? You learned quickly that while chocolate is good in moderation, it's not always good to mix chocolate with a bathroom full of steamy bath water."
His face turned a shade redder beneath the beard he was sporting. "True, but we did find some fun things to do with that melted chocolate."
She smiled. "That we did." She inhaled this new scent again. "You know, the rugged look, cologne and chocolate are all very attractive. They make you look like a well traveled man."
"I'd travel anywhere so long as it's with you." He moved her until she was positioned between his legs. "Feel like traveling to the bathroom for a hot bath?"
"On two conditions."
"Name them."
"You join me, and we leave the chocolate out here for now."
"Done."
"C'mon Cowboy, get that rear in gear."
He followed her eagerly as she scurried down the hall.
There's no place like home, he thought gleefully.
Fin.
A/N: Tell me how bad it is. And someone kind, please shoot me and put me out of my misery. I don't know if I'll make it.
