Two minutes

Summary: Who would've thought 2 minutes could change so much? To change a whole persons future it could only take 2 minutes. Short ONESHOT

Her heart was pounding, her head was spinning, with shaking hands, Kate opened the box. The box that held the truth, the box that held her future, the box that's contents could change everything. She pulled out the leaflet describing the instuctions

1) Urinate on stick

2) Wait for 2 minutes

3) Compare result with enclosed Chart

She sorted it out and sat on the bathroom floor with tears threatening to spill out of her eyes- She couldn't be pregnant, not just yet anyway. Only 6 weeks ago she had slept with Jack, although she was in a year long relationship with Sawyer. The baby could be either of theirs but would Sawyer be ready to be a father? Sawyer in a lot of ways had reminded her of Wayne, her biological father. He wasn't abusive like Wayne but like her mother, she always fell for bad guys. Jack was different, Jack was more like Sam, the man Kate called "Dad", even though he wasn't. Sam treated Kate like his daughter, not a little punchbag. Jack was kind and gentle and liked her for who she was and unlike most people, he didn't judge her for what she had done. She wasn't exactly proud of what she had done, but she knew that she couldn't dwell on the past and should look to the future. The future. That's what scared Kate the most, especially now, knowing that the colour of two little lines could change it so much. Talking of the little lines it was nearly time to see whether she was pregnant or not. Her eyes darted to the leaflet

"Please let it be negative" She whispered to herself, she couldn't bear to go through with this but the thought of abortion or adoption made her sick to her already churning stomach. She swallowed hard and looked at her watch.

2 long, drawn out minutes had passed, Kate compared the test in her hand to the leaflet in front,

Positive2 pink lines

Negative 2 blue lines.

Suddenley, the front door slammed shut. Sawyer strided into the bathroom "Sorry freckles" he said, and walked straight for the door,

"It's ok" Kate replied, quickly placing the test in the bin "I've finished now" and walked out of the bathroom.
