Pairing: Kaito x Shinichi
Warning: fluffy shounen-ai (boyxboy)
Disclaimer: I don't own Detective Conan/Case Closed (or Magic Kaito) – but I do love it. I really, really do..
A/N: Just a short little fluffy fic to test out whether or not I could write KaiShin XD I have another, much longer, story in mind to write another time but since I'm new to this whole 'writing fanfic'-thingy I thought I'd test out how I felt about writing about these lovely boys first.
It was almost 4 AM and Shinichi had yet to fall asleep as he lay in his bed and listened. The wind was making noises outside of his window as the storm continued. He had wandered around his parents' mansion for hours that night before finally going to bed and he was still just as restless lying in bed as he was walking down the corridors.
At a different noise coming from the outside he sat up swiftly. Could it be? No, of course not. It was just a branch. He'd have to get rid of that. Why the hell would he still have branches outside his window when he'd been living there his whole life?!
As he laid back down, he gradually got more and more upset with himself for not having gotten rid of the damn branch. After that he got angry with himself for another reason. He knew the real reason he wasn't sleeping. It wasn't the storm and it wasn't the branches. It was him. He wasn't home yet. It was him Shinichi was listening for. Kaito Kuroba – or rather Kaitou Kid – had yet to return from his latest heist.
For every passing minute, Shinichi imagined more and more ways for Kaito to have gotten himself hurt or, since he'd been down this mind threat for hours now, possibly even died. Shinichi flinched when he remembered how murders tended to randomly appear in his life. In all fairness, it was just a matter of time before the victim was someone he loved. He gripped his pillow tightly and tried to will the mental images of his dead boyfriend away from his mind.
Another noise came from the window but this time he ignored it, reminding himself to burn the whole damn tree down in the morning.
Having already written the noise of as the same branch from before, he nearly jumped out of his skin when he felt a warm body plunge down on top of him.
"I thought I told you not to wait up," a familiar voice spoke from behind him, a warm breath reaching his neck.
"Like it's possible to sleep with a storm like that," Shinichi snorted as Kaito sneaked his arms around him to pull him close.
"Right," Kaito laughed, knowing fully well that storms alone had never kept Shinichi from his beloved beauty sleep. He kissed Shinichi behind the ear and nuzzled his face into his favorite detective's hair.
"How did it go?" Shinichi mumbled, suddenly genuinely tired.
"Went alright," Kaito answered and covered them both in a spare blanket from besides the bed. "Nothing out of the ordinary… we can talk tomorrow, you can't go without sleep." But Shinichi hardly paid attention as the comfort of having Kaito next to him again lulled him to sleep. He fell asleep so fast he didn't even catch the final "goodnight, detective."
