Just a short little one shot that I felt I needed to write for Kate Beckett's birthday. It also happens to be my best friends birthday too so happy 18th to her :D
She opened her eyes slowly, stretching out across the large bed surprised when she didn't find Castle's body beside her. She turned on her side and opened her eyes fully and saw that he indeed wasn't there. She made to sit up but then noticed that Rick was coming in through the door backwards. She smiled lightly, "Morning Rick."
He turned around and gave her a smile, "Morning Katie bug."
She scrunched up her nose at the nick name but smiled when she saw what he was carrying. He had a large tray of pancaked and she could smell the coffee from the bed. "What's this in aid of?" she asked sitting up.
"Breakfast in bed for the birthday girl," he said, putting the tray beside her on the bed then getting in beside her.
She looked at the tray and then kissed him softly, "Thanks, no one's done that since my mom died."
He smiled at her, "Glad that you like it."
He watched as she dug into the food on the tray, after taking a two handed gulp from the coffee cup. He sat as she ate the pancakes and occasionally feed him a morsel from her fork. Once she was nearly done he stood and left the room, coming back with a bowl of strawberries and chocolate. She laughed as he dipped one of the pieces of fruit into the sweet melted loveliness and feed it to her. She then took the bowl from him and did the same to him.
"What do you want to do today?" he asked as he put a spot of chocolate on her nose.
She smiled at him and then laughed lightly as he kissed her nose and licked away the chocolate, "Well I've got the day off so anything."
He smiled and reached over to the bedside table and pulled out two parcels. Kate watched him and after swallowing her mouthful she said, "You didn't have to get me anything Rick."
"You were dropping hints Beckett; of course I was going to get you something."
She smiled at him and he passed her one of the packages. She put her fork down and took it from him and slowly peeled off the tape before pulling off the wrapping paper to reveal a jewellery box with the words 'Cuffs of Love' written in silver on the front. Kate looked at him and raised an eyebrow but he just shook his head and looked back at the box in her hands. She slowly opened it and smiled, inside was a beautiful bracelet. There were two heart shaped cuffs made of white gold inset with cubic zirconia on a black satin cord. Kate raised her gaze to meet Ricks and whispered, "It's beautiful, thank you."
He just smiled and handed her a second parcel. She took it without comment and opened it quicker this time. Inside was another box, slightly bigger than the last. She opened it and then forcefully kissed Castle, pushing him back against the head board. Once she pulled away Castle smirked and said, "I take it you like it then?"
She just smiled at him. In the box was an open locket containing two photos, one of them was of her mother and father and the other was of the two of them.
"I noticed that you weren't wearing your mothers ring anymore," Castle said as he took the necklace out of the box and shut the locket with a small snap, "And thought maybe you'd like to wear this instead."
He held it up and Kate smiled at him. It was a simple silver locket with the word Always engraved on it with a boarder of what looked like cherries around the outside. She wordlessly turned her back to him and moved her hair to the side. He slowly hung the chain around her neck and did the clasp before kissing the back of her neck. "Happy birthday Kate."
