Welcome to Choose A Path!
This story will be in a clan living far north where it is cold all year round. There will only be one clan. This setting is quite different from the Clans in the books, so I thought I should mention it!
I am writing this story and Where I Must Go at the moment, and I am likely to update one more often, depending on the amount of support I get!
I appreciate any reviews, whether encouragement or criticism, so don't be afraid to let me know what you think!
Prologue
Sagedust shivered in the cold breeze. Suddenly, she heard a faint whimper. The tortoiseshell she-cat pricked her ears and looked around. Something white stood out against the dirty snow, and Sagedust bounded over. A tiny kitten, probably half a moon old was curled up, her eyes shut tightly. The kitten was all white, except for black ear tips and a black spot on her forehead.
"Firewhisper!" Sagedust called. The golden tom padded over to her, amber eyes glittering in the fading dusk light.
"You are aware that you're over the border, right?" he snapped.
Sagedust glared at him. "This kit—" she uncurled her tail from the tiny white kitten, "needs our help."
Firewhisper gave her a shocked glance. "We can't take a kit! Her mother might just be out hunting."
"This kit is half a moon old. Her mother clearly hasn't been here for a while. We're taking her back to camp," Sagedust insisted. She picked up the kit by the scruff and bounded past Firewhisper towards the camp.
"I'll get the rest of the patrol!" Firewhisper called after her. Sagedust twitched her tail to show she'd heard.
…
"Sagedust!" Moonstar bounded down the rock steps that led to her den. "Who is that?" She trotted over to sniff the kit.
Sagedust placed the kit on the ground. "I found her just over the border. There is no sign any cat has been with her since the day she was born. Look at her, she's starving!"
Moonstar sighed, "Acorntail will take her." She picked up the kit and carried her to the nursery. Sagedust followed her.
Acorntail's three-moon-old kits were asleep in her nest. The queen's amber eyes sparkled in the dim light of the nursery when she looked at them. "Is that a kit?" she asked, climbing out of her nest.
"Sagedust found her on patrol, just outside the territory, with no sign any cat's taking care of her. Will you take her?" Moonstar asked. Acorntail was already putting the kit in her nest.
"Did you name her?" Acorntail asked. Sagedust and Moonstar shook their heads.
"No," Moonstar meowed.
Acorntail licked the kit's ear. "I'll call her Frostkit."
…
(StarClan's hunting grounds)
A black she-cat padded into a clearing. "Flameleap, Icefall," she dipped her head to the tom and she-cat already in the clearing.
"Stormstar," the two cats replied, dipping their heads in return.
"I presume you know why I am here?" Stormstar asked.
Flameleap nodded. "You are concerned about the kit."
Icefall bristled. "Not just a kit! We all saw the same thing in the Moonstream! She is going to destroy our clan!"
"We know that her destroying SnowClan is possible," Stormstar meowed thoughtfully. "But, perhaps, we can guide her to a safer path?"
"You're too gentle, Stormstar," Flameleap protested. "We need to save our clan, no matter what it means for her."
"Flameleap," Stormstar growled. "I am not going to destroy her to save the clan. I am going to help her find peace. SnowClan and Frostkit are to survive." With that, she turned and trotted swiftly out of the clearing.
I will be doing QOTC on this story, because I think it's a fun way to interact with my readers!
QOTC
Should Frostkit have dreams where Stormstar comes to her?
