Kensi stirred as sunrays filtered through the blinds and made their appearance on her closed eyes. She smiled as she found herself a prisoner within the hands of her husband Marty, who was spooned into her from the behind. She placed her left hand on top of his and as the simple white gold bands on both their fingers shone, she kept looking at them contentedly.

Marty stirred and pulled her closer, burying his face into her hair, trying to block out the sun rays. As his breath tickled her neck, Kensi tried to stifle her laugh and shook his hand in an attempt to wake him up. Marty mumbled something incoherently and turned her to face him. Before she could say a word, he pulled her flush against himself and nuzzled her neck, gently forcing his way under her neck, effectively using her face to block the sunrays out. Kensi couldn't help but smile at his child like antics even in sleep.

The day, being a Sunday and neither was needed at work; Kensi decided it was better not to wake up Marty. As she looked over his shoulders, she could see the right half of the bed empty. As she remembered every argument they've had over the years ever since they had to share the bed for an undercover op, as Justin and Melissa, Kensi laughed slightly.

Marty stirred again and mumbled, "Go back to sleep." Kensi sighed and placed a kiss on his shoulder, the only place she could reach, given the tight hold Marty had on her. It wouldn't take her more than a few seconds to escape but she didn't want to.

After a few non-date weekends spent as partners and best friends, on a fateful day when Deeks was shot again during an undercover op for LAPD making Kensi realize how much she needs him and she gave in to her feelings, not wanting to fight her attraction to her partner anymore. As she learnt that Deeks had been fighting his feelings all along, it didn't take long for them to go on date weekends.

When they started to share bed as lovers, both of them gave up the right side to let the other one sleep peacefully and both of them ended up on the left half of the bed. As days went by, the right side was usually left vacant as neither could sleep without snuggling to the other.

Today marks the anniversary of the first night they've started sharing bed as an undercover couple and Kensi cannot believe that they are the same people who fought for the right side of the bed all those years ago as she looks on at the vacant right half of the bed. She had realized that whether you sleep on the right side or the left side of the bed all that matters is if you are content for a good night's sleep.
