Hi. So, yeah, this is my author's note, separated from the story (last time wasn't meant to be posted.) Other than that, I hope you like it.
When Sirius first kissed Remus and Remus asked him how long this would last, Sirius laughed at told him forever.
And at the time, it seemed true.
So they kissed and they touched and they pranked and romped and were friends. And then they were sleeping together, but it was still fine, because it was going to last forever.
Then, after school, it was only natural that James and Lily move in together and just as natural that Sirius and Remus move in together. They continued more or less the same way they had at school, only with more war and more stress, but everything was going to be fine and they still loved each other. So they were sure that, yeah, it was going to last forever.
Then, Sirius didn't come home and Remus found out that James, Lily, and Peter were dead, that Harry was going to live with Lily's horrible sister, that Sirius was in Azkaban. (He found out from the Daily Prophet none the less, which arrived only a few minutes before Dumbledore himself came to find Remus pale, shattered, and most of all, furious.)
Remus had listened to everything he had to say before politely waiting for him to leave, which really meant yelling until he left.
His first thought, when he drifted out of the haze of shocked grief, the numb discomfort before the pain set in, was' forever didn't last long.'
