Behind an Angel's Eyes

Reflection One

For as long as I can remember, I'm not normal.

Sure, a normal baby would laugh and coo all he wants at a meaningless picture. Me, well, I'm different.

Different, you ask?

Hell, yeah I am.

My earliest memory is of touching a plant in my mother's flower garden. She has a green thumb – I can't blame her for gardening when she should be looking after me. Anyway, the flower had died; it's brown stem and hunched over form made my heart sink. I was playing on a blanket on the grass, and, looking up, I see a dead plant. Curious why it was brown and all the others were orange, I crawled over.

My mother saw me, and got up, rushing her dirt-encrusted hands, walking over to me, to pick me up and to put me on my blanket.

Too late – I had grabbed the plant, and it had immediately burst into bloom.

My mother gasped, because she was surprised. She grabbed me and ran into our house.

To this day, I ask her why she did it. She never responded. She acts like it's nothing I should worry about, much less remember.

But I did remember. And I worry. I still think it's important.

Important, somehow, someway, but how was it important?

…I didn't have an audience, did I?

And even if I did, deep down, I hoped that they were there.

My name is Ein Ledgendra, and I'm fourteen years old.

And I believe in the unnatural.
