Damon says, "I can make it fun." And that's the truth of it, really, as it has always been.

Stefan loves you, Stefan kisses you like he means it and holds you like he never wants to let go. People talk about fate, about destiny and when you're with Stefan you believe in all of it. He's your soulmate, you epic love, and everything you ever dreamed that true love would be.

But fun? Being with Stefan is hard, is a struggle, a fight against odds and those who would have you fall. Your love is epic and so there is no room for fun.

Damon loves you too. Damon looks at you with fire in his eyes and a smile on his lips. You flirt about nonsense, dance without bothering to care who might be watching and when you're with Damon it just seems right. Epic love is nonsense and soul mates are bullshit, but the way Damon looks at you makes you think that none of it really matters.

Being with Damon is easy even when it should be hard. Blood drips down your chin and you're a monster, but you're never felt this way before and you like it.

He's making it easy. He's making it fun and you don't have the will or the desire to fight the way you feel. You spin through blood and heat and madness and you don't care about any of it for the first time since you died. You don't feel human…you feel like something more.

You find Damon's eyes, sense him watching you. All of your senses are zeroed in on him. He's your world in this moment, in the moment where a writhing mass of college students swirls around you and darkness blankets you like an old friend instead of pushing down on you like a weight.

Suddenly, it makes sense. He makes sense. This is what being a vampire means. It's not penance and guilt and compassion, like Stefan says. It's heat and blood and passion and madness and…fun. You're laughing and dancing and all you can think about are his hands on you and this is so much fun.

("You're a lot more like me than you are like him.")

The blue eyes that glow in the darkness are goading you on, daring you to go further. They're wide and magic and telling you to do it, Elena. Take what you want. And you do want. You want it all, all the madness in his eyes and all the fun and passion that they offer.

You laugh and dance, keeping just out of reach. Be patient, you say. We have all the time in the world. And you do. You're immortal and for the first time ever, that thought fills you with something other than just dread. Time will never ravage you. You will exist as you always have, young and beautiful and it will be fun.

The music pounds and you throw your head back and you're glorious. You're ready for this…for what you are, for who you're becoming. Humanity is slipping away, something like a dull dream that you've cast off after waking. Vampire. You're a vampire. You are different, you are better than the humans that dance around you.

Across from you, Damon smiles and moves closer. He understands. He understands it all. This is what you are. This is life. This is fun.

Then Bonnie comes in and looks at you with horror. Your realization crumbles. You're Elena Gilbert…you care too much about everything. You have people who rely on you, a family you're still trying to be a part of. You can't do this…you can't be this. Not now, not yet.

The fear on her face ruins this, takes the fun you'd discovered and rejects it as something that is wrong. There's blood running down your fingers and dripping from your chin.

You leave the room, forcing yourself to be human once again.

But when Damon says, "I can make it fun." You know that he can.

A/N: So...there's that. I like this season so far, despite the fact that I'm a Delena girl. I like where it's going. Anyhow...review, all that jazz.

Disclaimer: I own nothing.
