Flashback
Kel stared at the thin shadow. It was all she could see of Tortall. Her parents were at the harbor, to minute to see with the naked eye. Beside her was a suitcase and a maid. Her parents let her hire a handmaiden to taken care of her during her stay at the Yamani Islands. The maid, Lasaga, was a friend of her sister's handmaiden. She assured Kel's parents that lasaga would protect Kel. Kel wasn't so sure. Although she was a hardworker, the maid was shy and frightened.
The wooden floor beneath Kel's feet rock in time with the waves. She was on a ship from Tortall to the Yamani Islands. When Kel had asked to become a knight, her parents profoundly refused. Instead, they offered her a compromise, to live and train with the Yamani's. She would become a lady and still study weaponry. Seeing no other choice, Kel accepted.
So here she was, on the ship to the Yamani Islands. For the next few years, she will learn manners and the way of the court. Kel wondered if she had made the right choice. Oh well, to late to turn back now.
End of Flashback
Kel shook out of her daydream. That was six years ago. She was now sixteen. She had become much accomplished in the last few years. Her appearance had changed. Her auburn hair was no longer short, but layered. The longest strands curled at her waist, while shorter tresses framed her face. She wore only light face paint. She had not wanted to wear any at all but her maid Lasaga was constant. Kel sighed, she remembered when Lasaga was timid but six years with Kel had changed that.
"Kel!" A voice called out. Kel suddenly became aware of her surroundings. She looked up to see the cheery face of her friend, Yuki. Yuki was eighteen and lovely enough to melt any man's heart. "Come, Kel. Come see." Yuki led Kel to the rail. Peering at over the rail, she saw a slight shadow on the horizon, the same shadow in her daydream. "We've finally come to Tortall," Yuki cheered.
Kel was on a boat, the boat to Tortall. Princess Shinko, a close friend of Kel's, was also on board. Kel, Yuki and a couple other ladies were accompanying the princess to meet her future husband, Prince Roald. It was a huge honor go with the princess. Kel was chosen not only because of her beauty and grace, but because her excellent skills as a warrior. She might be needed in case any danger might befall to the princess.
A/N : First chapter done! Yes, I know it was short and yes, I know the spelling was terrible but bear with me until I get my hands on a copy of Squire. This is my first fanfiction so please review. All reviews accepted, so flames away.
