They were on one of their rare dates at the park since Echizen Ryoma,18, is a tennis pro now, they rarely had time to spend with each other as he has tournaments all over the world. Sakuno had something that she wanted to give to her boyfriend of 3 years.
When Ryoma arrived and sat on the bench next to her, Sakuno gave him a smile and said, "Hey i want to show you..."
"Ugh I'm so mad!" Ryoma cuts her off before she could finish her sentence.
Worried, she then asked him, "Why? Whats wrong ?"
"Everything," he replied.
She seldoms sees him in this kind of mood during their dates so she told him to explain what happened.
"I just lost a match ,oyaji flipped out on me for no reason and now i'm catching a cold," he explained.
She gave him a smile and try to cheer him up, "Well hey there will always be other games, you know. If you're sick, I'll take care of you. By the way, what is your dad angry about?"
Still sulking, he replied, "He's making me pay him for a car repair which I did not caused."
She asked, "Is it a lot of money?"
"No, but it just sucks," he replied.
Then he continued, "I don't feel well. I'm going to go rest at home. Ja."
He stood up to leave but Sakuno stopped him. "Wait! I want to give you some..."
Again, Ryoma cuts her off, "Can't it wait till tomorrow?
Since she did not want to get him in an even more bad mood she agreed.
Right after Ryoma left, her phone rang. It was Tomo-chan asking her to accompany her shopping. Since she had nothing to do she agreed.
While they were talking, Tomo-chan did not see the oncoming truck in front of them. She swerved to avoid the truck but ended up hitting a tree instead.
They were brought to the hospital immediately. Tomo-chan managed to survived but Sakuno is in critical condition.
After receiving the call about her granddaughter, Ryuzaki Sumire immediately rush down to the hospital. At the hospital, she remembered to call Ryoma.
Ryoma: Sensei?
Sumire: My granddaughter...Sakuno was involved in a car accident.
Ryoma: Is she OK??????
Sumire: She's in critical condition.
Ryoma: I'll be there in 10 minutes
He shows up to the hospital room ...standing outside the door going over the last conversation in his mind over and over as he heard the machines beeping and breathing tubes pump oxygen into her lungs
Then Ryoma remembered something, "She wanted to give me something or tell me something."
"Yeah. It's probably this. The nurse found it with her belongings," Sumire replied.
It was an envelope.
He opened it and read the contents...

Sealed in it was a ripped movie ticket from the first movie they went to and the first picture they took together at Kawamura sushi restaurant during thei junior high days.
He kissed the picture as a tear fell from his face onto the picture
It looked as if in the picture she was crying
Then the machines flatlined...3 minutes later she was pronounced dead.
