Hearts in Balance

The Santa Anna winds were racing around her. She could smell the charring world. The fires burned. It was a vision, a feeling that stirred in her soul. She was alone, lost. Her hopes cast on swirling winds. She missed him. Her heart yearned. He was gone. There was nothing more to do but remember, and try to forget.

Chloe stood looking at the wall. She stared at image after image, searching, trying to find it, a feeling that lingered, burned into her heart. Her vision was always just out of reach…out of sight. She knew she would know it when she saw it. The symbol was a thought, a feeling. "A heart…Yin and Yang," in desperation she blurted out.

The young man's face held a smile, his voice was kind. "Trust me."

Tucked into a secret place she wore it, she touched it, she loved it. It was a passion she would never share, a symbol of her heart's desire, her love, and her devotion. The passion for a dream of a hope within despair. The passion of a fire on an endless sea. A dream that she knew would never be.

She would keep her secret love, her dream. As she slept, every night he would return to her. He would love her. He would touch her. His kiss would linger on her, within her. Every night she would cry in his arms till the light of morning broke though.

One morning the winds had ceased. The rain washed the smoke away. Chloe woke and in the early morning light a tear drop fell. As she stirred she felt his warmth trace her heart. His voice whispered, "Tell me about the tattoo."

They both found their balance. It was no longer a dream.
