Sitting, Waiting, Wishing
He watched her as she hurriedly tried to finish her math test before the bell rang. Her mechanical pencil flew like a whirlwind across the paper, her blonde hair a beautiful mess of waves. Her name was Madelena…and her Swedish name matched her perfectly. She was the shyest girl in school but that was exactly why he liked her.
She was the kind of person that could think of many ways just to make her happy because she didn't care about anyone else. He thought of her as untouchable, as many of the other guys in the grade did. Everyone found her too gorgeous to talk to but he didn't; he knew there must be a real person underneath. He would stare at her from a far and wait for the perfect moment to sneak a word in.
MADELENA'S POV
She could see Dan staring at her again. He was a boy who had some friends...but mostly he was alone. Sometimes, she would look intently at him while his face was down just so she could see as he shyly lifted his eyes to and shifted them away. The funny thing was, it didn't bother her. She was very uncomfortable around every situation and she figured if she talked a little more, people would actually start respecting her. Girls especially. She never felt like they cared. They looked down on her and hardly ever talked to her either. At lunch, she sat next to a few "friends" but she had overheard them say that the only reason they kept her there was to "fill the seat".
Madelena was a lonely girl. She felt desperately awkward and wary. Last year she had transferred from another state and she figured everyone thought she just came from the other middle school. She did nothing but wait for someone to make the first move, and one day, someone did.
