I stared into Luke's eyes, the depth of them consuming me. He stepped closer to me, and whispered, "Annabeth." He reached out to touch my cheek, his hand gentle and…slightly wet? Why was it…
"You know things didn't have to end this way." Luke speaks as if from a distance, his voice muffled and his wet hand growing wetter. He slowly dissolves, with a last "ANNABETH!" and I open my eyes.
Percy Jackson is next to me, kissing my cheek where Luke had touched.
"Hey, Annabeth," he says softly, kissing me again on the lips. "Annabeth, wake up! We have things to do and people to see!" I slowly turn my head to face him, taking in his green eyes, when I remembered something about my dream. Luke's eyes were blue again. They weren't gold…which means that Kronos was not overtaking him. Was it a dream? Or was it really Luke? No…I pushed the thought away, not letting myself hope it was true.
"Annabeth? You ready to wake up?" Percy strokes my cheek, being uncharacteristically romantic this morning. I ache for him to kiss me like there's no tomorrow, to flip me over and-
"Annabeth! Come on!" Percy stands up, thankfully releasing me from my slightly-too-dirty thoughts. I shake them off. Athena would never approve. And, speaking of Athena, I look around my cabin. I can feel my mother's presence, from the owl trinkets to the figurine of her that inspires me daily. After what me and Percy were up to last night though…I'm glad I couldn't feel my mom's presence there.
I quickly get dressed and pull my hair back into a ponytail, following Percy out the door. What are we doing today, you might ask? Well, it's a regular day for us now. We're going to rescue our friends.
