He hadn't realized how cold he'd grown until heat suddenly touched him. It took him by surprise as strong, protective arms wrapped tightly around his struggling body, but it sank further than his mere body as the younger man spoke to him.
It sank into a heart he'd not known he still possessed and blazed through cold that had wrapped around his soul, promising him he didn't have to be cold and lonely any more. He could still have love. He could have it with this man who so boldly dared to pull him away from his rightful vengeance, this man who risked his own life to save his, and touched him in ways that he'd never thought he could be touched.
Erik hadn't felt such a bright, radiating, and reassuring warmth since being with his parents before the war. Even then, the heat had been different. Theirs had been comforting, a promise that things would never change and he'd always be loved, but that promise had been broken. This heat was different, however. It sizzled with passion and promised love. Erik hoped it would last but feared it wouldn't as he turned to go with Charles that fateful night.
The End
