Emma realized the mistake she had made the moment she kissed Erik. The very air around them vibrated with his anger. She started to back away but wasn't fast enough as metal bars sprang from the walls, wrapped around her slender throat, and snatched her backwards. "Erik!"

More bars and other wires wrapped around her body. "Erik, I'm sorry!" she cried. "I knew you and Charles had history, but I didn't know it was that kind of history! You told me you wanted me to take his place!"

Fury radiated off of Magneto. He glared up at her, pure, venomous hatred shining in his darkened, blue eyes. "Nobody can ever take Charles' place, Frost. I wanted you with me as a telepath, nothing more."

"It was a mistake!" Emma wailed, struggling helplessly against his power. "My mistake! It won't happen again! I promise!"

"See that it doesn't," Erik vowed, "or next time, I will kill you." He released her to drop onto the floor and walked away from her like the forgotten baggage she was. His heart would always belong to Charles alone, and only he would ever touch his body even if their dreams kept them from ever being together again.
