She Knew

She knew it was a futile attempt as she quietly shut the door and tiptoed through the dark apartment. She knew that even though the first rays of the sun weren't nearly up yet, Alex definitely would be. She knew that Alex always pretended to be fast asleep when she finally stumbled into bed. She knew that this particular path was a slippery slope that she had vowed to never go down.

But she has hope that maybe one day, just maybe, Alex will have the courage to open her eyes and save the mess that has become Olivia Benson.

After All

"I can't live like this anymore." Alex whispered over their morning coffee one rainy October morning. Months of the same routine had finally caught up with her.

"I'm sorry." Was all Olivia could say over and over again as she watched Alex pack her bags. It was also the only thing she could say as she watched the front door close when Alex walked out of her life.

Those are the only two moments that run through Olivia's mind when it rains. Alex finally opened her eyes, but she still couldn't save the mess that became Olivia Benson after all.

The Train Always Comes

Sometimes when she sits at the train station she can see Alex waiting by the stop. Her long blonde hair whipping in the wind as the sun reflects off her porcelain skin. Her mind tries to formulate the last words she said to Alex but she can't come up with anything substantial. She always walks toward her, all the while thinking about what she's going to say when she reaches her. How she just wants to scream her name and tell her not to get on the train.

But before Olivia wakes from her nightmarish dream, the train always comes.
