"Piper, come to bed," Prue pleaded.
"No," Piper answered, her voice strangled. Her eyes were red from crying another river full of tears, and her hair was the stringiest Prue had seen it since they had been teenagers. She lovingly ran her hands through Piper's soft, black hair and then took her sister, her soul mate, into her arms again.
"It's not going to get any better, baby," she whispered. "Phoebe's dead. She's not coming back. Nothing can change that."
Prue's words rang in Piper's ears. She knew the truth, and that truth both made her ache with a pain unlike anything she'd ever known before and made her endlessly thankful. She sobbed as she collapsed into Prue's arms, and when she finally stilled, she whispered so quietly that even Prue could not hear her. "It already did."
Phoebe had given her Prue back. For her sacrifice and the gift of her love returned, Piper would never forget Phoebe or forgive herself, but she also wouldn't look back. She missed Phoebe, but she had Prue returned to her now. She wouldn't lose her big sister again, she vowed, and began kissing her beloved as though there was again no tomorrow.
