China was doing her make up in the morning when her phone started ringing. She checks the caller ID. Her heart pounding as she read Skulduggery across the screen.
"Hello?" China said cautiously. Wondering what he wants from her.
"Good day to you, China. How are you this fine morning?" Skulduggery says too cheerfully.
China was suspicious. "What do you want?"
"What? Can't an old friend just check up on a fine lady, without needing a favor?"
"Not with you. What do you need?"
"Well... now that you mention, I do need a favor. Only a small one though. Some old friends want me to come to the Grand Ball. But I have no one to bring along. So I thought, why don't I choose one of my beautiful female friends, who can dance, to come with me and we can show off our dancing? And you are the first person who came to mind. So d'ya wanna come as friends?" Skulduggery asks hesitantly.
'No! I want to come as a couple!' China thought.
"Sure. What time do I have to be there at? And do you want me to wear a dress that matches your tie color again?" China remembered the last time she went to a formal with Skulduggery. She had to wear a blue dress because he was wearing a blue tie.
"8pm. And yes please. I am wearing a red tie."
"Sir, yes, sir."
Skul laughed.
"Umm... Skul? Can you come to my place when you have the time? I need to talk to you about something..." China said quickly before she changed her mind about the whole thing.
"Sure. What is it about?"
"Oh, you will have to come to find out. Goodbye Skulduggery! I will see you later hopefully."
"Do you want me to come round now? I have nothing to do anyway. Valkyrie has the day off and nothing has came in from the sanctuary."
"Sure? How long until you get here?"
"Oh, about 20 minutes? Not too long."
"Ok! See you then! Bye!
"Bye China!"
As Skulduggery hangs up the phone, he suddenly has a plan to tell China about his feeling for her. Yes. That's what he'll do.
China was freaking out. That's not normal for her. She is normally calm. But not now.
She jumps a mile in the air when she hears knocking at the door. Her heart thumping hard in her chest, she opened the door to find Skulduggery, wearing his façade.
"Hello again Skulduggery. You are looking very fine this morning."
Skulduggery smiled, as he had his façade on, "You too China."
"Sit yourself down. Do you want a cup of tea? Wait, you can't have anything to eat... Never mind. Here, just make yourself at home-"
"What did you want to talk about China? Stop babbling and just tell me."
China walked up to Skulduggery and, without thinking, kissed him fully on the lips. She broke off, blushed, and looked down.
"I love you, Skulduggery."
Skulduggery raised his hand, and delicately touched her beautiful cheek. He leaned in and returned the kiss, at the same time, pulling her closer to him.
"I love you too, China."
