The Plot
Hell was lonely, hot and extremely boring. All the damned souls moaning about his palace made him scowl, his fiery red eyes flaming with hate and distaste. Standing up tall in his black robes, his shoulder length hair falling back like a flaming waterfall.
Walking across the dark, winding halls he reached his destination, the grand balcony, which overlooked all of Hell. Looking straight ahead with his godlike vision he could see the faint silhouettes of the manors people had in Elysium, and if he concentrated enough he could make out the waterfalls and palaces of the people who resided in the Isles of the Blessed.
Closer to his dark palace were the Fields of Asphodel, where all the souls roamed about, wisps of their former lives and selves. It was pitiful to look at them; they looked so clueless as to where they were. Sometimes they would have recollections on whom they were but it soon left.
Right next to his palace was the River Styx, flowing around his palace like a moat, and in the dark waters he could trace the faces of the souls. Right in front of his palace was Tartarus, and the Fields of Punishment, virtually the largest part of the Underworld or as mortals called it, Hell. He could hear their screams, could feel the pain and anguish. On any other day it might have pleased him to listen to the suffering but today he felt indifferent.
Contemplating on what to do, he heard music and joyous voices. Straining his ears further he could hear talk in Elysium, a couple was getting remarried. Marriage, he pondered. Yet there was no woman who would marry him, except for one. He shook his head, not wanting to remember the person who had caused him anguish, had made Brick, Lord of the Underworld cry. It had been a tear, but it had been enough.
Marriage was the answer. He needed someone to spend his life with. "Amphyrithon!" He called to his most trusted advisor and in a small burst of smoke he appeared.
The young man bowed hastily to his Lord before saying, "Yes, sire? What do you require of me?"
Brick took a deep breath, readying himself for the reaction he was most likely expecting and stated causally, "As you know, I have been lonely and I believe a companion would help dissipate the loneliness."
Ampyrithon looked on confused before Brick sighed, clarifying, "I need a bride. Someone I can spend my immortality with."
Realization dawned on his face and he nodded, racking his mind for women who were single and willing to marry the King of Hell. The list was short, with no names at all. Suddenly the daughter of Demeter came to mind.
"My Lord, how about Blossom? She is the daughter of Demeter, thus the Goddess of Flowers. She would make a suitable match." He suggested.
Brick nodded, contemplating the thought before stating, "Yes, she is perfect. Yet her mother would never agree to this union."
Ampyrithon nodded before saying, "That is exactly why we will abduct her."
Brick smiled at the suggestion before starting to discuss the strategy with Ampyrithon before sending him away, not without praising his intelligence. It was decided, Brick would ride out in his chariot and abduct her from a trap that he would set up. Smiling at the thought he walked away to his chambers before thinking on how soon he would be sharing them with someone.
