To Catch the Attention of Thor

A/N: Okay, so I don't tend to write fanfiction. I read a lot of it, and revel in all the fabulous writers that are out there. However, whilst watching a wonderful BBC programme called 'James May's Man Lab' I had a strange idea come into my head. Should The Doctor try to 'catch lightning' like they did in the show, he would probably manage it. So here we are, my strange little One-Shot/Drabble which has not been Beta'ed at all! Good luck readers =D

The contraption that The Doctor was currently half concealed by puzzled the Ponds. Unlike other times that they'd found The Doctor tinkering, this didn't appear to have any connection to the wonderful blue box they were currently residing in.

"Doctor?" called Amy, studying the pair of legs sticking out from under it. "What are you doing?"

"Catching lightning" came the muffled reply.

Amy exchanged a dubious glance with her husband. "Catching... Lightning. In the TARDIS"

The Doctor's mop of hair appeared from underneath the supposed 'catching lightning' device.

"Do keep up Pond" scowled The Doctor "of course not in the TARDIS!"

"OK" said Amy, humouring him "Where shall you be catching lightning? And why catch lightning in the first place anyway? Does the TARDIS have a sudden need for an electrical storm all of a sudden?"

Standing to his full height and tossing the spanner he had been using in the general direction of Rory to catch, The Doctor raced to the console and started pulling levers.

"I'm bored!" The Doctor exclaimed.

"What does being bored have to do with catching lightning?" asked Rory puzzled, making his way towards the console with swiftly caught spanner in hand. He carefully placed it down on the console, fully aware that the TARDIS would take offence should HE be careless with it.

"I'm bored" repeated The Doctor, looking at Rory as if that should have explained everything. When Rory thought about it, he realised it should have.

"Where are we going?" queried Amy, leaning in to look at the screens. A thump and the sounds of the TARDIS materialising heralded their landing.

The Doctor brushed past his companions with a grin, picked up the strange device and threw open the TARDIS doors to reveal what looked like a desert.

"Come along, Ponds" he called over his shoulder.

By the time Amy and Rory made it outside The Doctor seemed to be all set up. Rory could see a small village close by, and thunderous looking clouds above them.

"Alright then" babbled The Doctor "I point this towards the cloud, press this red button here" he waved a little controller about " and WHOOSH off it goes!" He looked at the Ponds with a manic grin "That should excite the cloud to send down a bolt of lightning, which will hit the sand and super heat it! What do you think?!"

"I think I'm about to get hit by lightning" grumbled Rory.

"Doctor, is this safe?" asked Amy fixing The Doctor with a Look.

"Perfectly safe!" exclaimed The Doctor. Before the Ponds could question further he pressed the red button, sending the device into the sky.

"Three... Two..."

A bolt of lightning streaked down, hitting a small shed-like barn 100m away.

"Ah.." said The Doctor, noticing angry looking faces of the locals through some windows.

"Perfectly safe you said!" exclaimed Amy, looking at the smouldering remains of the barn, and the emerging armed locals.

"Yes, well.." mumbled The Doctor.

"They don't look very pleased Doctor" stated Rory.

"No," said The Doctor "Basically... run!"
