"Opposites must attract." Maia muses as she watches Alec and Magnus together. "There's just no other explanation. Even though Maia is new to the group, she caught onto the two men's relationship quickly. The obvious attraction was there, and someone of the looks that they throw at each other is hot enough to melt you to the floor. It's so steamy that you feel like you've interrupted something. But it's how she feels for the most part anyhow.
Maia could see the pros and the cons of both, and why this thing couldn't possibly work. A whole society is looking down at Alec now: something that he is not used to. Alec is now not only being looked down at for being gay, but for also dating a warlock. And in the shadow hunter world, its two strikes, and you're out. Three and you're dead. . Two…well; Magnus himself can be counted as a whole reason. Magnus is everything Alec is not. But maybe that's why they are meant to be.
Magnus is careless, and flashy. He takes pride in his outrageous clothing, and his magnificent accessories. He also has been known to cause disturbance throughout the down worlders, as he invites rivalry into his home with big parties. Alec is reserved, and strict. He follows the rules carefully, making sure to not even test them. He shies away from parties, not even thinking about throwing one. And he thinks nothing of his clothing; he cares very little for them.
But they have one big thing about them: they protect those that they love with all of their might. Both are strong, and powerful. Both are killing machines; they are ready to go at any moment into battle. But there's more to it than that. Even when it is unnecessary for one to go to a battle that another is in, they will go anyway.
That is the whole reason why Magnus showed up here in the first place: For Alec and his friends. And partially for Clary, but she's an exception. Magnus watched her grow up; of course he doesn't want to watch her die. But, he wanted to be Alec's knight in shining armor.
Maia turned her gaze towards the couple once more. Well, he sure did that. Magnus became a lot of people's shining armor tonight. He was a rock for clary, and a stepping stone for Alec. He was a barricade and a teacher for Jace. And he was, most of all, a fighter who took down Valentine.
She smiles and shakes her head. She begins to think to herself about how wrong she was about Magnus: he is perfect for Alec. Those thoughts ended abruptly when she sees Magnus pull out a blue sparkly headband and offer it to Alec. She snorts out loud.
Well, maybe she wasn't too off base when it came to Magnus. But they still are the perfect couple in her eyes.
