The rain fell covering the forest in a fine mist. Rae was hunched into the nook of a tree clutching the allosaurus tooth she had found a few days back. Rae had been lucky, a fight between two males had ended just after she had trekked into the clearing. The victor had left giving a deep dinosaur call leaving the other to die. She had been able to rip a slightly rotten tooth from it's mouth and had been using it as a form of self defense from the smaller lizards that had claimed the area as it's home.
Now it was raining, It had been for the last eight days...had it been eight? She had officially been here longer then that but she couldn't remember the days anymore. A call from somewhere in the forest let her know that the Slashers were out and patrolling for food. She scooted back into the tree more. She had picked this tree because it had been taller then the others and the dinosaurs overall avoided it from what she could tell. She pushed her remaining black hair up into her hood with her good arm. The other had been bitten by an insect and had swelled with puss in a matter of hours. It had hurt but she had sliced open a small part of her hand to get the swelling to go down, it worked but now it was completely useless.
Rae had to wait for morning. She couldn't travel at night like she did for the first few nights she was here. Her pack carried few of the original things she had with her,all that remained was her music player and computer. Both had been broken or gone dead after a month of falling onto them or minimal use. The mirrored surface of her music player had been used well as a way of attracting smaller dinosaurs that she could kill and eat. Her clothes had faired no better then her stuff. She wore basic off brand running shoes, cargo capris and a shirt that had a hood attached. Rae had once had a jacket as well but all that remained of it was wrapped around her hand and the bottom of the allosaurus tooth to create a handle she could grip well.
Slept slowly crept over Rae, her eyes grew heavy and she slowly slid into sleep. She dreamt of sunshine,of her old friends, her university, even the art classes she hated so much. The sun awakens her just as she's about to bite into a piece of chocolate cake. The sun is no longer a comfort either, it just simply means different killer lizards will e out stalking about. Getting down the tree is harder then getting up. Rae pauses every few steps down to make sure nothing horrifying is going to try and go for her legs or face in the case of the flying creatures that circle the skies now and again.
With one final jump she's on the ground and moving. Her left leg hurts from the jump but staying in one place for too long is suicide. Rae moves to the north sensing for some reason that this may actually help her today. It does. She hears the sound faintly but soon the rumble of a car is unmistakable.
There are other humans here!
Rae takes off towards the sound, hearing more of them, they are passing her in the distance but she's close enough to follow. Branches and leaves whizz past her as well as smacking her in the face, she doesn't care. The sound of a car has reignited her energy and she is running as if a slasher was right on her tail. She keeps going until the sounds of the cars stop. She almost screams in frustration as she comes to a stop at the very large expanse of flat lands in front of her, then she looks up. Walls, not natural ones made out of rock that had protected her from a slasher attack once, but human man-made walls; with gun towers too! Humans, she can barely believe it. She begins to run towards the settlement picking up speed as she goes, with one thought in her mind.
'I'm not alone."
