Alright guys, this is just a prologue. I kind of want to see how many people read it and just give me a quick review on if you think this has potential and if you like the beginning. I have plans for this, trust me. Chapters will be anywhere from at least 1000 words to 5000. It just depends. I won't make them super short like this. Promise :) read on and don't forget to review!
After the war, Gale did go to District 2. He allowed himself to realize the moment that he saw those bombs go off that any chance he had with Katniss was ruined. She would never be able to see him the same way she always had, he knew that and he accepted it. The best choice, he thought, was to go to District 2. Completely take himself out of her life, start over. So that's what he did. Only there was no one to comfort him when the nightmares woke him, night after night. He faced his fears and guilt and pain alone, as he was so used to doing anyway.
"Soldier Hawthorne, you're requesting a week's leave, am I correct?" my main commander asked and I nodded silently, my tired eyes fixated on an unusual groove that dipped into the edge of the desk he was sitting behind. He was silent for a moment, and I could almost feel his eyes studying my exhausted features. "I'm granting it to you because, quite frankly, you look like shit. Pull yourself together, Soldier. If you can't, I'll have to give you a medical leave. You can't keep doing this to yourself."
I pursed my lips, an irrational irritation growing due to my lack of sleep and his suggesting that I couldn't do my job effectively. "I'll do my best, Sir," I responded curtly, desperately wanting to leave the confining office as soon as he could. After signing off on my papers, he dismissed me. I half ran back to my quarters, grabbing the phone from the desk and dialing a number I knew by heart.
"Mom? I'm coming to see you."
