A/N: I always thought Nearly Headless Nick was a bit..well, unexplored in
the books, so I decided to give him a bit of a background. Typed for your
pleasure, and also for my new Beta Reader, who rocks. (You can read his
story under the account name 'Frankenstein's Monkey', Defiantly worth a
look).
Anyway, Heres hoping you like this, and please, please review, Please? Chapters a bit short, but will add more soon

Beyond the Grey
Chapter One- Lost and Found
"Lost, my dear?"
Salome Applebourne, a very confused, and indeed, very lost first year looked up toward the voice. She was met by a kind, albeit ghostly smile.
"I...Um......"
For some muggle-borns, like herself, the Hogwarts ghosts took a little getting used to. Sir Nicholas, an old and distinguished resident, always felt rather sorry for 'new recruits', particularly outcasts, as this one appeared to be. Two weeks had passed, and never once had he seen her with a friend.
"Umm..I don't mean to be rude ...sir, but..who are you?""
"Sir Nicholas de Mimsy Porpington, My lady" he replied, with a winning smile and a half-bow, careful to keep his head balanced on his neck.
"S...Salome, sir...Salome Applebourne"
"A pretty name..." He said quietly "Anyway, what, or whom were you seeking?"
"Potions, professor Snape"
"Around the corner, on your left. You'll be a bit late I'm afraid, but don't worry about him, his bark is far worse than his bite. Mister Potter and his friends can vouch for that, I'm sure"
"Thank you sir.." she smiled, looking mildly terrified, and walked, as though to her own execution, through the door.
