This is just a short, weird little thing I felt like writing. It hasn't been betaed and it's weird. Feel free to bite my head off. Naruto belongs to Masashi Kishimoto.

Once bitten...
Iruka was never really sure how to address Pakkun. He was a Konoha ninja, kind of, but he was also a dog. Could you call a dog Pakkun-san? Or Pakkun-kun? Iruka was pretty sure that Pakkun-chan wouldn't be appreciated. Oh what was he worrying about, Pakkun was as laid back and easy going as his master, and he probably wouldn't care one way or the other. "Pakkun?"
"Yes, Iruka-sensei?" the little pug said, lifting his head up from the sofa.
"Why does Kakashi-kun always bring you here when he comes back from a mission?"
"I like it here."
"Oh." That was good, Iruka supposed. He was still curious though. "Wouldn't you like to go home with the rest of your pack?"
"Are you trying to get rid of me, Iruka-sensei?"
"What? No! Of course not Pakkun, you're always welcome here." Iruka hurried to reassure the pug. "I just wondered. That's all."
Pakkun looked at Iruka fondly. Silly human, too dense to guess the reason for Pakkun being here, but too polite to question any further. Still, it was better this way. Better that Iruka think Pakkun simply liked lazing around on the teachers couch.
Later that evening when Kakashi was back from his post-mission meeting with Tsunade and Iruka was in the kitchen preparing their meal, the jounin approached his nin-dog. "Report," he said softly.
"Nothing to report boss, no one besides Iruka and Naruto has been in this house since you left and I don't smell anyone else on Iruka either."
"Naruto?"
Pakkun saw the calculating look in Kakashi's eye. He knew what his boss was thinking. Naruto was eighteen now, an adult, a rival and the boy had always been extremely fond of Iruka, too fond for Kakashi's taste.
Pakkun hastily reassured him. "Naruto's interest in Sakura hasn't wavered. I can smell his interest in her very clearly when I'm around them."
Kakashi nodded, satisfied for the moment that his little chuunin had been a good boy while he was gone. "Thank you." He made a few hand seals and with a pop Pakkun disappeared.
Moments later Iruka walked into the living room. The chuunin looked at the empty couch. "Where did Pakkun go?"
"Home"
"Oh, do you think he felt insulted?" Iruka asked anxiously. " I asked him if he wouldn't rather go home with the other dogs after missions."
Kakashi shook his head. "He was fine, he said to say goodbye to you."
Iruka was relieved; he wanted his lover's dog to feel welcome in his home.
Kakashi reached out and pulled the hair tie from Iruka's hair, ruffling it so it fell loose about the chuunins face. "Pakkun likes it here."
He reached out and pulled Iruka against him, kissing him deeply, stroking hands down his back and possessively cupping his backside.
This was the longest relationship he'd ever been in. Iruka hadn't made any 'mistakes', yet. Kakashi hoped for both their sakes that he never would.
