Hello, everyone! I'm back from everywhere and nowhere! I know I don't write very often, but I just got the random idea for this one and decided to give it a shot. I have a little more written than what's here and have an idea of how to continue it, so let me know if you want me to post my continuation! Reviews greatly appreciated. :) It's Dave/Jade I promise, you'll see. Homestuck ©Andrew Hussie, the big-lipped man himself.
He couldn't take much more of this.
Davesprite sat on the highest point of the ship, his head resting on his formless lower half, which was coiled tightly on the floor. It hurt so much, but he wasn't quite sure what it was that was hurting. He was practically a ghost. No flesh and bones, no legs… no heart. But some part of him was still causing him pain. While he was unsure where his pain was coming from, he knew why it was there. So many reasons cluttered his mind, he wondered how he qualified to be an all-seeing sprite.
It hurt knowing that he lied to Jade. He broke off their relationship and lied to her face, saying it was because he was having some "personal issues." He wouldn't be surprised if she had seen right through him. Especially considering he was a ghost and was semi-transparent and all that, you know? Ha ha… yeah. It was for the best, though, even if Jade couldn't see it and even if Davesprite couldn't accept it.
It hurt being apart from her. They had been thrown together on that ship and Davesprite thought it would be great. He thought he could just hang out with her and be happy, but he let himself go too far. He knew he shouldn't have asked her out, but to be honest, he hadn't even attempted to stop himself when the time came.
But it would never work.
Davesprite knew they had no future together. He had no chance of staying with her, especially after they met up with all the others from the meteor. He knew he couldn't be with Jade. She wasn't his girl. She was Dave's. The original Dave. And that pained him so much. He couldn't let their relationship drag on any longer because he knew the more time they were together, the harder it would be to let her go later. But it was still hard, still full of hurt, and the thing that pained Davesprite the most was her face when he said they were done. Her wide green eyes pierced his through his shades, brimming with confusion and sadness. Her fluffy dog ears had drooped comically, but Davesprite didn't laugh as he used to when she used that as a pouting tactic. She couldn't help it this time, and he knew that. He knew her better than anyone, even John. But he had to be forceful, make sure she would forget about him and remember her real knight.
He lifted his head slowly, looking out at the stars speeding by in the darkness, creating thin white streaks that illuminated the sky in a soft light. He wished it were darker. He wished he were darker. He just wanted to fade into the night, so he wouldn't have to look at himself or have Jade see him. He'd just be the ship's silent, invisible guardian, looking after all the nakking lizards, glubbing salamanders, and people on board. Davesprite cursed himself for glowing so much and placed his head back down. He wondered if Jade was having fun at John's birthday party. He felt bad for ditching his bro, but he just couldn't be around either of them at the moment. Though he wasn't sure when he would be ready to see them. Probably never, but being a sprite, Davesprite knew forever was a hell of a lot longer than it seemed. He needed only to survive this last year, pain never dulling, and he could escape the ship; abscond without anyone noticing. Jade would have her real knight then, and Davesprite would have no place in their lives.
He felt so silly. Really, what was he doing getting caught up in love in the first place? And he was supposedly the wise one.
