Archive: Sure but let me know where

I figured there would be a lot of stories after last night's episode (which rocked!) that would be Tony centric so I thought I would give Ziva her do. If I got the exact structure of what Tony said wrong, forgive me - I think it's close enough and still in keeping with the mood. Reviews are GREATLY appreciated. One-shot only.

Ziva's feet pounded the path around the lake.

The day's events had gotten under her skin. She should be used to it by now, death. She should be used to where it left the living. There were a lot of things she should be.

Her mind kept repeating the last conversation she'd had with Tony.

"It could have been us."

"But it wasn't."

Not today at least, she thought darkly.

By now Tony would be with Jeanne, cuddled up by a fire with a glass of wine…if they weren't already in bed.

McGee was probably back in Abby's lab slumped against some cold hard metal surface, just thankful to be able to watch her work.

And Ducky, well Ducky, had his bodies for company…even if they were in pieces.

That left Gibbs who she was certain was in his basement, working on his new boat and his new relationship that he would never admit to.

She reached her front door, opened it and went over to the radio. Too much quiet left her too much space to think.

A slow sad melody filled her apartment.

Great, she thought, just what I need right now and moved to change the station. But her fingers stilled as the lyrics began to haunt her.

"Love is watching someone die…"

Ziva scoffed.

If that was what love was, then she had already had enough of it for one lifetime.

If THAT was what love was then she would do without!

But the haunting continued.

"So who's going to watch you die?"

Her knees went weak as she listened, unable to shut it out. She moved to her couch, sitting on the edge, fingers gripping.

"So who's going to watch you die?"

Her body slumped into the soft cushions as she allowed a small, strangled sob to escape.

She didn't want to die alone.
