Odd was with Ulrich in their dorm room talking about their latest XANA mission. Odd smiled and laughed when he reheard the stories of their missions and this was no exception. Ulrich looked at Odd and saw his smile, however, Ulrich wasn't smiling. He had almost fallen into the digital void and was only saved by the return to the past. Odd asked his friend what was wrong and he answered with, " We always come so close to death and I came very close today. It is disheartening to feel like you are going to die tomorrow." Odd understood this feeling because he had it to. Odd smiled once more and said, " It will all be fine." Ulrich looked at his friend and saw his usual grin. He was always smiling and being so happy, and the only time he wasn't happy was when he was worried for is friends or sad, but that never lasted long. Ulrich just needed to know so he asked Odd, "What makes you so happy? Even when there seems like there is no hope you still smile and try to laugh. It amazes me how one can be so optimistic." Odd stared at Ulrich. He had no idea why he was happy. He thought and thought and while he was thinking Ulrich fell asleep. He was up all night and was even awake during all his classes just thinking. Mrs. Hertz thought he was dead and hit him with a ruler. It didn't faze him. He was just lost in thought. He didn't eat that day and the gang questioned Ulrich since he was the last to talk to him. "I asked why he was always happy," Ulrich said with a sigh. " I thought he was so happy because he had nice friends" said Yumi. " I thought he had some sort of mental illness," said Jeremy. " I thought he was raised in a place where there was no reason to be sad" said Aelita. " I thought it was all of those things" Ulrich replied thinking. They just quieted and ate their lunch.
It was late that evening when Ulrich asked again what made Odd so happy. It seemed as though his trance was broken and he spoke. " I am happy because of my friends, my mental problem, and I never really was sad as a child but none those are the main reason. I am happy because I am a hero. I am happy because I save people. I am happy because I will always be a lifesaver. I am happy because I do a favor to society. I like my life, my job, and my friends and no matter how bad it gets I never regret my choices. It is the life I chose and I like my decision. There is no reason to be sad because I would never have it any other way" Odd answered. Ulrich could tell he wasn't making this up. He thought about everything Odd said. It was well thought out and he went to bed thinking about it and then fell asleep. Odd laid in bed and stared out the window out the moon. He smiled as he fell asleep and thought, 'I am truly happy.'
I think that is the answer to my question but if you do review, please tell me why you think Odd is so happy. P.S. I will be happy to read long reviews if you can't explain it in only a few words.
