The Sacrifice

Silent pain;

It is what he had been destine to.

I looked up and saw,

The end of my world.

My true love goes,

To a place, I cannot hold.

The two open wings,

A soaring bird;

A mixture of things,

That hasn't been heard.

Eyes that I've seen

Harsh and fierce, the gaze so wild.

Eyes that have been

Soft and gentle, they looked so mild.

A mind that's torn;

Between human and raptor,

So madness is thrown

Over his quite character.

A brave soldier of war,

A casualty. A subject to pain.

A soul trapped…what's more,

His thoughts drove him insane…

The one of a kind,

I have grown to admire.

The abstract difference in mind,

To my heart, I have valued no one any higher.

The final day,

A mission had come.

Success is our only option, we say

End the invasion that had begun.

A sacrifice in his part,

Pain and loss in mine.

For so much we had in heart,

And from such dreams, we reluctantly decline.

I saw him, as my comrade,

My true and only love, my friend.

And in his decision, sacrifice be sad.

For he stands for his beliefs, his right to defend.

So he places himself between

The differences of failure and success,

The piercing light, the deadly beam;

Left behind a bloody mess.

He falls like a star,

Plummeting from the sky,

And I'm too far

To do anything but…

…watch him die.
