I don't own One Piece. My apologies.
Nami gazed up at the clear blue sky in exasperation. Why, oh why, did she have to be on the crew captained by an idiot like Luffy? Every day, he was bouncing off the walls. Every day, running around. Every day, laughing like a monkey. And sometimes, like today, upsetting her drying maps. Why did she put up with this? She was the best navigator in the world, and a strong fighter to boot. She could go anywhere. She could be rich all the time, and not just when they helped someone out. She could avoid being hunted by Marines, and she definitely wouldn't miss being targeted by stronger and stronger enemies.
She saw the island before Luffy, a rare occurrence. "Island! Luffy, everyone, it's the next island!" she called out excitedly. And everyone came pouring out onto the deck to see the newest island. She noticed Luffy scrambling to the front of the ship to sit on the figurehead. He was forever doing that. It was a habit of his, to look forward and never backward. Everyone else did the same. It was comfortable that way. No one prodded anyone's past. That just wasn't the Strawhat way.
Oh. Nami huffed out a breath of air in amusement. Well, that was one reason for putting up with Luffy's foolishness.
As the island came closer, Nami felt a thrill run through her. Here was another island, another place for her to chart and add to the world map. Luffy was probably going to get in trouble, but… What the heck. It wasn't completely okay with her, but… it was somewhat acceptable. She would still protest it. No one would know she actually didn't mind as much as she said she did. Yeah. Besides, Luffy was just seeking his own kind of adventure. For Nami, her adventure was traveling, mapping the world bit by bit with her crewmates. For Luffy… Well, his idea of adventure had more fighting and neat animals than her own, but it was sort of the same.
A silent question crossed her mind, and she turned away from the island, looking carefully at her friends for a moment, scrutinizing them closely. Satisfied, she nodded to herself and faced forward again, leaning on the rail. She gave a happy smile. Yes. They all had the same general idea of adventure. She didn't know why she had ever thought of leaving.
