Ballad of the Betrayer
Have you ever heard the tale
Of a murder most foul
Of betrayal and heartache and suffering,
And a killer on the prowl?
Four friends, bound by honor
But one bound by hate,
The three friends unknowing
A killer lied in wait.
He longed to have what he didn't
Hated those who had more
When the chance sprung up,
He betrayed those he adored.
Have you ever heard the tale
Of a murder most foul
Of betrayal and heartache and suffering,
And a killer on the prowl?
The first friend and his wife,
They were the first to pay
Their son, only one,
Was the only one to get away.
The second friend had been left alone
He no longer trusted any person
Had no one to call a friend
And his sickness had only seemed to worsen.
Have you ever heard the tale
Of a murder most foul
Of betrayal and heartache and suffering,
And a killer on the prowl?
The third friend suffered most
He tried to get stop the liar
He tried to fight with the inferno
And ended up getting thrown into the fire.
He was sent to jail
For a murder he didn't do
While the true betrayer
Walked away without his dues.
Have you ever heard the tale
Of a murder most foul
Of betrayal and heartache and suffering,
And a killer on the prowl?
So thirteen years passed
And the betrayer got away
The third friend, waited
For the day he could make him pay
Have you ever heard the tale
Of a murder most foul
Of betrayal and heartache and suffering,
And a killer on the prowl?
A simple ballad I wrote for Writer's Craft class.
