Disclaimer: Death Note doesn't belong to me. If it did… well, use your imagination.
Author's Note: Matt is six or seven in this; he'd just gotten into Wammy's. Just a little interaction between Matt and BB.
Impressions of Red
Matt turned a corner, quietly tip-toeing towards the stairs. He'd been stupid enough to hang out with the older kids today, none of which had gone to class. Moments ago they'd been caught loitering in the bathroom. Matt had high-tailed it out of there before he gotten caught as well. He only hoped he'd make it to his room without being seen.
As he reached the stairwell he froze, the sound of humming reaching his ears. He clenched his fists. How was he going to get past whoever was there?
Stealthily, the redhead peaked around the corner to get a good look at his obstacle.
A black haired boy looked up at the same moment he glanced around the corner, the boy's red eyes seeming to stare right through him. Matt froze.
The black haired boy blinked as he looked back at Matt, noticing something very peculiar about the kid.
It took no less then a moment for Matt to decide to run away. Something about the man he saw before him wasn't right, made him want to hide. He dashed off, no longer caring whether or not he was seen.

At dinner Matt found that red gaze on him again. He'd been talking with his friends when he felt it. The stare. Matt glanced around, eyes locking with scarlet again. The black haired boy was staring at him from across the room, a puzzled look on his face as his thumb hung from pale lips.
Matt shuddered, that gaze was filled with blood.

Beyond carefully folded the letter he'd written, placing it gently on Roger's desk. Tonight he resigned from being a successor of L. He would leave this place and become greater than the fool he'd been taught to be.
B stepped outside, the pouring rain hitting him like softened needles. He ignored the cold droplets, making his way towards the street. As he approached he noticed a little boy jumping in the puddles, giggling to himself.
It was the same boy Beyond had seen earlier, the one that was so peculiar. He made his way up to the black concrete. "You shouldn't be playing here, it's not safe," B stated, stepping onto the road as well.
Matt jumped, spinning around to face whoever had just scolded him. He froze upon meeting crimson eyes.
Beyond, satisfied that the kid would probably go back inside now, started to walk off.
"Hey!" B stopped, watching as the kid ran up to him. "You're leaving?"
"Yes."
A flicker of joy crossed Matt's face before it became solemn again. He looked up into the black haired man's eyes, prepared to say something.
Beyond looked back at him, waiting.
"You know," Matt started. "I think you'll be a murderer some day."
Beyond smiled slightly. "Yes. I will."
Matt forced himself not to tremble.
B squatted down, giving Matt a disarming smile. "I think you deserve a little something for knowing that."
Matt's instincts told him he shouldn't have spoken in the first place.
"So, I'll tell you something about yourself." B smirked. "You'll die young."
That said, Beyond got up, and disappeared into the night.
