I prefer crimes.
I prefer danger.
I prefer anything with this psychotic consulting detective.
Sherlock Holmes is a strange man, he knows things just due to his condition of being a "know it all." Whatever people say of this man, I assure you that he isn't all that he seems. For example, the time I asked him to be my best man, the man was speechless. Never had he had a friend, nor one who became their best friend. It was a big weight on his shoulders, trying to answer the question; he wouldn't open his mouth until six whole minutes had passed.
"Uh, me? John, you think of me as your-"
"My best friend? Yes, Sherlock. You have been an odd friend, even one who 'dies' for two years, but I feel that you're the person I want as my best man. So…your answer?" I had never seen Sherlock this distraught in my time of being his friend. Sometimes being with Mycroft can make him stiff, but just this question? The answer is either, "Yes" or "No", and he is a solid rock. He is left speechless and his eyes widen even more.
"John Watson, as you know that I am your….uhm…best friend, I should take this offer to be your best man. Though, this isn't my, I guess you would say, thing?"
Stupid man. He can solve crimes with just knowing where a pink suitcase is, but not be a best man?
"Fine Sherlock. I guess I'll use Lestrade as my best man. Maybe even Mycroft?"
"Okay John, it's just that, this whole thing of being friends and a best man is new. I am a consulting detective, not a sociable person. How am I going to speak to your friends? How will I make a toast about you and tell funny stories? It's not a pleasant idea." Knowing Sherlock, I get why being social is a difficult thing. The man only talks to me most of the time; he'll talk to Lestrade, Mycroft, Molly, or Ms. Hudson sometimes, but not as much to me. He's only comfortable around me and speaking to my friends at the wedding isn't going to make him comfortable, even I'm nervous for the speech he will make. But damn Sherlock and his awkward self, I can't even picture him talking in front of everyone.
"Okay, John I'll be your best man. Do I have to make a toast?"
"Yes, Sherlock. Can't get yourself out of this." As an actually human being, Sherlock isn't as bad as everyone sees him. He's just an awkward man and he tends to resemble a lost puppy when he isn't a consulting detective. The wedding had turned out to be a case that we needed to solve. Our three cases before the wedding had been all connected and Sherlock did surprisingly well talking at the wedding. I'm proud of that man, as annoying and psychotic he is…he turned out to be a great best man.
I appreciate him and overall, Sherlock is my best friend. Can't deny that.
