A/N: So here we are, the fourth story in the Multifandom Snapshot Series. Cuteness awaits!
Mama or Dada?
Lucy sat in her highchair with a bowl of Cheerios and a sippy cup of milk, watching her parents move around the kitchen preparing coffee, bacon, eggs, and other breakfast goodies. As Danny walked past Lucy with a steaming mug of coffee, he bent over and gave Lucy a quick kiss on the cheek, eliciting a still slightly gummy grin. Danny's path took him to a position beside Lindsay as she cooked bacon and eggs at the stove. After taking another sip of the life-giving brew, he set the cup on the counter next to him and snaked his arms around Lindsay's waist, nuzzling her neck while mumbling, "Good Morning, Montana."
"Morning, Dan." Lindsay leaned back and gave him a peck on the lips. "Breakfast will be ready in a few."
"I got all the breakfast I want right here." Danny nuzzled even further into her neck.
Rolling her eyes, Lindsay raised one of her hands to wave him off, resulting in her patting him in the face a few times. Danny reluctantly let her go so she could put the finished eggs on the plates already containing a helping of bacon each. Danny grabbed his coffee plus another cup for Lindsay and turne to the dining table as Lindsay did the same , a food laden plate in each hand.
Just then, a tiny voice rang out. Both Danny and Lindsay froze in their tracks, staring incredulously at Lucy and each other. Then, almost as if in a trance, they simultaneously put down whatever they were holding and moved over to Lucy.
Danny was first to reach her. "Did you say what I think you just said, Luce?" He crouched down to be eyelevel with her.
Lindsay did the same on Lucy's other side. "Was that your first word, baby?" Lindsay stroked a soft cheek.
"You said 'Dada' didn't you?" Danny grinned.
At this, Lindsay looked up. "No, she said 'Mama', Danny."
"No, I'm positive it was 'Dada'."
"Mama."
"Dada."
"Mama."
"Dada."
They were interrupted when several small somethings hit them both in the face. Looking down, they saw a few Cheerios scattered on the floor. A look at Lucy revealed a wide grin and one hand in the Cheerio bowl.
"Alright baby girl, why don't you tell us what you said?" Danny addressed Lucy. Lucy simply stared at him.
"C'mon Lucy. You said 'Mama' right? Ma-ma?" Lindsay supplied.
"Goo."
"Aw, c'mon Luce. I know that's not what you said. It was 'Dada'. Say it again baby. Da-da." Danny coaxed.
"Ma-ma. Say it for me, honey. Ma-ma." Lindsay cut in.
"Goo-goo."
"Lucy!" Lindsay almost whined. "Was it 'Mama' or 'Dada'? Please say it again baby. Ma-ma? Da-da?"
In response Lucy banged her sippy cup on the highchair table, sending a spray of milk into Danny and Lindsay's faces. They blinked disbelievingly.
"Goo!"
THE END
What was Lucy's first word? You be the judge!" By the way, I realize sippy cups are supposed to be spill-proof, leak-proof, spray-proof, etc. but hey, they're not foolproof, and we can just imagine the lid wasn't on right or something.
p.s.: I found it incredibly weird that the episode that happened to be playing on AXN (I'm in Taiwan) was "The Box" (where Lindsay tells Danny that's she's pregnant) while I was typing this. Maybe it's just me.
