It wasn't fair on him she knew that; but still she found herself comparing them.
He was brash and impulsive, she was pondered and cautious. While he still lacked the elegance a man his age should already have acquired she held the grace and beauty of a woman half her age. He blatantly disregarded her feeling on most occasions, she most always accounted and treasured them, even if only demonstrating it through subtle looks and soft words. When she was with him rarely did they not end up arguing, when she was with her they could talk for hours.
He was the safe path, a dull road to an average life.
She was wonder and mystery, a path worth taking if only for the journey.
It wasn't fair on him; she knew he'd never had a chance.
