Disclaimer: I do not own Rurouni Kenshin or any of its wonderful characters.

Author's note: I am much more a reader than a writer so I ask that you forgive me. This was mainly an attempt for me to escape writing my paper. Now, I am sure this has been done before but either way I wanted to share it.

P.S. excuse the grammar.

Saitou Hajime, Captain of the Shinsengumi and war veteran, was not a sentimental man. So how was it that he was now playing the part of the fool? He was dressed as was appropriate for the occasion and was standing tall, though he would never admit it; he was feeling a little self-conscious . . . in front of everyone. Why was he doing this? He glanced over at his best friend, Okita Souji, who simply grinned at him like the idiot that he was.

Then the music started playing and everyone turned their heads in sync to look at the door. At that moment, he knew why he was currently dressed in a tuxedo and playing the part of a fool in love. That's right, in love.

It was all for her, for that smile that always made his heart skip a beat. His eyes never left hers . . . but of course, Saitou was not a sentimental man much less a sentimental fool. Yet, his eyes focused on hers, as the white dress she wore seemed to make her radiate and glow.

Tokio stopped to stand next to him and smiled at him. She was happy. For a brief moment, Saitou lost himself in her smile. But of course, Saitou was not a sentimental man.

Maybe but only maybe. Saitou Hajime, Captain of the Shinsengumi and war veteran, was a sentimental fool but only for her smile. But of course, he will never admit it.
