My sword. My life. My love.

The glistening steel blade with black letters carved in the side curves into a perfect point over three and a half feet. The bronze-colored crossguard expands elegantly to cover my hand, studded with artful patterns and exquisite gems. The leather handle is perfectly formed for my fingers and palm, and balances perfectly with the blade. I hold Anglachel.

I am a Knight of Panem. With Anglachel, honor, and valor, I will uphold the law of this shattered land under the name of the Capitol. Like the knights of legend from days long ago - Aragorn from J.R.R. Tolkien, Sturm Brightblade from Margaret Weis, Don Quixote from Cervantes, and the original King Arthur - I shall bring discipline to these uncivilized Districts and spread the power of the Capitol over all this broken land.

But first, to begin my career, comes a tournament. Like the Roundtables of Medieval England, twenty-four aspiring knights convene in a great contest to determine the victor - he or she who shall have great glory and fame. All my life, I have trained to be that Victor. With Anglachel strapped onto my side and courage in my heart, I will go and claim my position in the Hunger Games.

I am Gareth Incruentus of District Two, and today, I will volunteer as a Tribute in the 51st Hunger Games.
