His hands smoothed over his head as the water washed over him. He scrubbed down his chest with Dharma's excuse for soap. His thoughts drifted to the last time he was around the shower. It wasn't that long ago…in fact, he went over it so many times in his head that it seemed like it just happened.
His hand curved into a fist as his eyes closed hard. He couldn't help but feel like an idiot…a big, stupid, dumb idiot. She was there and…and he was there and…he sighed heavily, what an idiot.
It really was like they were all back in middle school. Or high school considering the thoughts he was thinking of…they were just that dirtier. But he couldn't stop fantasizing, couldn't stop daydreaming…she plagued his mind.
He ran it all over in his head for must be the billionth time. She had been showering but he had been so wrapped up with himself that he hadn't heard the water. He opened the door and she had just wrapped the towel around herself. If he had only opened it sooner, just a little bit earlier…he fought the urge to imagine what he would've done if he had seen her. She wouldn't have had time to wrap the towel around her before he saw at least something.
He nearly slammed his hand against the shower wall. As if showing up later than he wanted wasn't bad enough. He had been so overcome with desires for her that his mind went blank for what to say. All he could think of was 'hey'. HEY. It was this stupid greeting that made him feel like an idiot. That had been his chance to say something romantic, something funny…something that would make her immediately fall desperately in love with him.
He fought the urge to slam his fist against the wall again. If only he hadn't been such an idiot, been so awkward as if he had never seen a girl before…then the whole thing would've ended differently. He could've taken her arm, pulled her close to him and…he shuddered at the images rushing through his mind. He forced his hands to stay on the wall beside the showerhead.
Then he heard a small noise. It sounded like someone had walked into the bathroom. He thought that he had imagined it at first but he was sure someone was really in there with him once he heard a noise again. He felt himself getting even more excited. It had to be Kate. It just had to be…and now was his chance.
He smiled as his devious side started planning it out. He would walk out, pretending that he hadn't heard anything at all. He would strut out, taking his time to grab his towel so that she could take her time looking him over…comparing him to Sawyer. He was sure she'd find him much superior. Then she'd be forced to break the tension first, make him 'realize' she was there. This couldn't fail.
He took a deep breath before stepping out of the shower. He kept his back to the rest of the bathroom, waiting for a gasp or some sort of noise from Kate. He was surprised that she hadn't even said his name yet. He grinned as he grabbed the towel. He really must have made a serious impression on her.
"Mornin' Jack." Jack's excitement went right out the window and the grin from his face fell.
"Locke," he exclaimed with surprise. He quickly wrapped the towel around his waist. "You uh…you couldn't wait until I was done?"
He felt devastated that he even thought that it was Kate. She didn't even come by the hatch anymore…not after she had been caught by the Others. His whole thought wave of believing he was an idiot was just coming back. He replied to Locke's questions like a robot, his thoughts completely focused on something else. Why couldn't it have just been Kate?
And now it was back to his problems. His Locke problem, their Henry problem, the whole damn we're-stuck-on-the-island problem…his problem with not being able to finally work up the nerve to confess his feelings to Kate. He was wondering if any of this was going to end.
