A/N: I am currently writing To See You Happy, but due to my staying at my sister's house, I don't have a way to update the next chapter. Therefore, I'm just writing one shots to pass the time. If there is anyone here wanting the next chapter of To See You Happy, I promise it will be updated on Sunday. Till then, read and enjoy!
It was a mystery to him. Why she always would upset herself over the times he visited Kikyo. Why her eyes tear up when she would glimpse at the soul collectors soaring through the night the others would condone him for his disappearances and ask if he knew what he was doing to Kagome.
Seeing her now, in his arms, he understood. The jealousy raged in the core of his abdomen. His claws flexed, ready to tear open the damn boy's throat for daring to get this close to her. That was supposed to be him. He was her protector after all, and the place she belonged was tucked away in his embrace.
She laughed, and the jealousy simmered to pain. She only laughed like that around... well actually no one. Never had he seen her so bubbly, so cheerful. Every time she would come back to his world, the stench of the boy cloaking her scent of innocence, he would be mad but she would be ecstatic. Insisting to spend each moment of the day with Sango and tell her everything about the guy she called her boyfriend.
She met his lips, both locked in a passionate kiss. Their eyes closed in bliss, and he couldn't feel anything but confusion. He suspected to be angry, but he felt nothingness. Just numb. Every part of his limbs tingled as his demon bellowed a disapproving roar.
Perhaps it was time he shows his face to the boy. Pull Kagome to his side and tell him she was his. He would grab her then, profess his undying love for her and convince her he would be a better mate for her. He would sweep her off her feet and carry her away, as cliché as it sounded, it was appealing.
But instead, he resisted his heart's desire. He turned away from them, their laughter fading behind him. He jumped back into the well and waited for her. She never came. She promised she'd be back before sundown, but it was already nearing nightfall. The tears squirted unwillingly. As he was about to give up, a flash of light halted him.
"Sorry I was late." She giggled and he cringed.
"Whatever wench."
She didn't respond to his insult. She was so happy that it bothered him slightly. She headed for the trees with a bounce in her step and humming a tune. He knew then nothing could spoil her mood.
Even as shimmering orbs of light fell around them, encasing them in a bright shower. He saw the two eels stare back at him, expectantly. He looked back at Kagome, who watched the display with little interest. Her eyes did not tear up, in fact, she smiled encouragingly.
He froze. Kagome would be upset, but her scent only carried an indescribable happiness that nothing could ruin. He turned away from her wordlessly, bolting into the night. He hoped he would hear her sobs, her screaming, but all he could hear was her mirthful laughter. It suffocated him. Even if he told her he committed a mistake to turn her away for Kikyo, even if he told her she was the only one for him, he doubted she would care.
It was far too late to make her care anything about him.
