Some Things Are Meant To Be Prologue YOU HAVE TO READ THIS TO UNDERSTAND THE STORY!: This songfic takes place after the final battle. The light won, but during the battle Draco revealed that he had switched to the light side because of his love for Hermione. Some Death Eater put a curse on him to make him die slowly and painfully.

Song: Some Things Are Meant To Be, from the musical Little Women (which rocks, by the way). It is bolded and italicized.

Hermione knelt next to him, trying to find a counter-curse, a healing spell, anything that would stop this. Draco could not die. They were meant to be with each other, meant to never be apart.

"Stop. Do...don't waste your strength." His voice was shaky and weak.

"No, no, Draco! No!" She was sobbing hysterically. She calmed down a little as she saw his eyes flutter open.

Draco...Everyone has someone special in the world, and I have you; my sweet Draco... Give me a task to do.

Let's pretend we're riding on a kite. Let's imagine we're flying through the air.

We'll ascend until we're out of sight. Light as paper, we'll soar.

Hermione was still crying softly, but she went along with Draco.

Let's be wild, up high above the sand, feel the wind, the world at our command. Let's enjoy the view, and never land.

Draco smiled.

Floating far from the shore.

Hermione stroked Draco's cheek softly. He leaned into her touch, slowly moving his hand up to take hers. He closed his eyes.

Some things are meant to be, the clouds moving fast and free.

Draco stroked Hermione's hand, seeming to take strength from her very touch.

The sun on a silver sea.

Draco's strength seemed to give her strength. She gathered herself, and stopped crying, though you could still see the tears on her cheeks. She picked up Draco's head, his blond hair tickling her palms. She placed his head in her lap, and he opened his eyes and looked up at her. In them she could see such love she knew she had never known in all her life.

A sky that's bright and blue.

And some things will never end.

Draco looked up into Hermione's eyes, and smiled yet again

The thrill of our magic ride.

Hermione gave up trying to appear strong. As the tears coursed down her cheeks, she felt his hand lovingly wipe them away, only to fall back into the bloodstained dirt.

The love that I feel inside for you.

Draco was slipping away faster that ever. His voice was getting softer and softer, but he was still grasping her hand with his entire small amount of strength that was left.

We'll climb high beyond the break of day.

Sleep on stardust, and dine on bits of moon

Hermione bent down and kissed him softly on the lips. He tasted of blood and pain, but also of love and joy. He gathered up his strength

We'll be mad, and explore. We'll recline a loft upon the breeze.

Dart about sail on wit with ease.

Pass the days doing only as we please, that's what living is for.

As he took a breath, he felt her tears fall onto his lips, and he drank in the moisture. He looked up into her eyes for what he knew would be the last time.

Some things are meant to be, the tide turning endlessly,

the way it takes hold of me, no matter what I do,

and some things will never die, the promise of who you are,

the memories when I am far from you.

Hermione watched him.

All my life, I've lived for loving you.

Draco closed his eyes.

Let me go now.
