Prologue

On the banks of south Puget Sound, a tiny diving boat, no more than 12 feet long, pulled up to shore. Through his binoculars the man could identify two well-built men in wetsuits unloading their oxygen tanks and dive gear onto the pier.

"That's them," he handed the binoculars over to the tall, dark-haired man on his left and put on his sunglasses again. He stiffened noticeably as a third man emerged from under the blue tarpaulin. This man was even taller than the first two. He wore a full-length grey and red wetsuit that clung to his sculpted body, taut muscles flexing as he slung two dive bags over his shoulder and leapt gracefully onto the pier.

"You really think your plan will work?" asked the man with the binoculars.

"It's worth a shot," replied the man on his right. "Knowing Jacob, he'll fall for it hook, line and sinker."

The man with the binoculars reached for his phone and pulled up a photo. "This girl?"

"She's the weakest link," came the confident reply.
