"I don't hate them, you know."

Sharp yellow eyes glanced at him sleepily, glowing eerily in the dark. The only other light visible came from the dying embers of the fireplace.

"I know it looks like I want to kill 'em most of the time, but I really do care." A blank stare was all he got in return. He shifted a bit where he lay, propping himself up against the headboard of his bed.

"It's just that, it can be so bloody hard sometimes, watching them act so carelessly, never considering who has to deal with all of their messes." She yawned at him and drew a little closer to his body, closing one eye in the process and giving him a Look with the other.

"I know that they're just kids, but you'd think they'd know what my job is by now. All I ask for, is that they clean their shoes once in a while, or maybe close the taps once they're done using them." He sighed heavily, scratching the top of her head. She stretched her back contentedly.

"Children will forever remain children, I suppose." He looked down upon her. His precious little one. Always faithfully remaining by his side, listening to his woes. "But never you doubt, Mrs. Norris. If one of those brats ever dare lay a hand upon you, I can promise you it will be the last thing they'll ever do with it. Mark my words. No matter how much I care about children, you'll forever be my little precious one." The only reply he got was a pleased purr and the crackling of dying flames as silence finally took hold in the dark.
